Winter Wedding Ideas

The cold weather has inspired us to think about winter wedding ideas and our conclusions are, that a winter wedding needs sparkle…. and warmth.

I love the idea of a winter wedding, there is something magical about the idea, maybe because of Christmas. That said, just because your wedding is happening close to the biggest festivities of the year, it doesn’t mean you need to go for a Christmas theme. For me a winter wedding is about incorporating the excitement and wonder felt about Christmas, without the need for the featuring of snowmen or Santa.

What I love about winter is the idea of wrapping up warm, drinking hot chocolate, sitting by an open fire, the smell of berries, creating snow angels and catching up with friends.

For some winter wedding ideas, why not incorporate these feelings and activities into the day:

1- Protect yourself against the elements

If you are getting married during the winter months the chances are high on it being cold. There is also a strong chance of rain. To ensure you enjoy your big day, make sure you are prepared for all weather eventualities. Wrap up warm with a wrap, bolero or shrug, have an umbrella that you are happy to have seen in the photos and invest in a pair of wellies or warm boots.

2- Keep your guests warm

Happy guests make for a great wedding. An outdoor ceremony and/or photos might sound like a great idea, but make sure you keep you guests warm.

Options could include handing out scarves and gloves as gifts or handing out hot drinks during the photos such as Pimms served in cups and saucers, or a hot chocolate station. Your guests will really appreciate these simple, yet effective ideas.

3- Bring the outdoors in

Bring the smell of winter, indoors with the use of berries in the flower arrangements or how about on the cake.

4- Add warmth

The feeling of warmth can be created with the use of deep colours for the bridesmaid dresses, or in the colour scheme.

Another option is to incorporate candles into the decorations. These will help to create the feeling of warmth and the magic of winter.

5- Add some sparkle

A winter wedding is a perfect excuse to incorporate some sparkle. How about adding some sparkle to the table decorations or incorporating sparklers into your photographs and/or exit?
